A Message From Vice Mayor O’Brien
I hope you had a safe Fourth of July. I spent the holiday, which is one of my favorites, with my family, which includes my favorite people!
Since we’re in monsoon season, I want to share information about how you can help reduce stormwater pollution. Stormwater can pick up pollutants such as oil or trash and can impact our rivers, washes, and parks. Your simple everyday actions can make a huge difference and improve stormwater quality and our environment. To reduce pollutants, be sure to clean up after your pet, apply lawn-chemicals sparingly, and properly dispose of leftover paint and household chemicals.
The City of Phoenix Water Services Department hopes residents will remember this line: Only rain goes in the storm drain. The Department even has a coloring book that teaches how to avoid stormwater pollution, with the help of Hopper, the friendly desert toad. While the book is designed for kids, I found the story and activities just as fun as our youngest residents do! You can find it here.
